Using ASL-51 Timer to stop heating

On the product page for the ASL-51, it says:
QuoteFor customers that use our temperature controllers, the timer can enhance the performance of their systems. One example is ... using the alarm output of the controller to trigger the timer. When the preset temperature is reached, the alarm will start the timer. When the timer delay is reached, the timer will shut off the heater.

The manual states that the CNT input has no effect on the timer, and that the RST line must be triggered and released to start counting.  Will I need an additional part to make this work, or can I just hook up a relay on a PID to the CNT line on the timer?

If you connect a momentary switch to the terminals 1 and 4 of the timer, that switch will have the same function as the RST key on the front panel. If you set the relay operating mode to 1, 3 or 5, it will start counting when it's on. You don't have to push the reset button. What is your application? You may want to take a look at this file for how to make it work with a controller.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm using this to time a boil during beer brewing.  I want the timer to be on prior to reaching the boil, and start counting down once the boil is reached.  From the sounds of it, and after reviewing the document you supplied, I'm going to either have to keep power off of the timer unit until I've reached boil temp, or wire up something that creates a momentary contact once the relay from the PID closes...
