I am pretty good at figuring things out, but this PID has my head spinning. I have tried to look for videos that are similar to my application, but can't seems to find them.

I want to heat treat a few 80rcv2 knives. The HT recipe calls for 1465-1480F and soak for 15-20 mins before quench.

So I want the HT oven to go from ambient to 1465 and hold for enough time to HT a few knifes, let's say 60 mins. After 60 mins shut off and cool down normally.

From what I understand the program would look like this?

C01=1465, T01=60 (ramps as fast as it can to target temp and hold for an hour)

C02=1465, T02=-121 (shut down and cool after the initial 60 mins hold time)

I am pretty sure for the lot of you this is a very simple program, but thanks for looking.

Your program is incorrect. T1 is the time to ramp up from C01 to C02. So based on your description, you need one extra step before your first step, to ramp up from ambient to your 1465.The program in the original post is also correct with safety start feature enabled.

Since you need to ramp up ASAP for your first step, you need to use the safety start feature. Please set Hy-1 = Hy-2 = 1, Hy = 0.3 Please see page 7 of its full manual for details.

Here are your corrected program: The following program also works, which could be easy understanding.

C01 = 80, T01 = 1 (C01 temperature must be over your actual ambient, otherwise the program cannot be started).

C02 = 1465, T02 = 60 (ramps as fast as it can to target temp and hold for an hour)

C03 = 1465, T03= -121 (shut down and cool after the initial 60 mins hold time)

Interesting,  I was basing my program off of a sample program in the manual on page 11. It's references c01=375, t01=20 and says it will soak at 375f for 20 mins.

Thanks for the reply.

The example on page 11 is correct because safety start is enabled at first. Similarly, the program in your post #1 should also works if you enabled the safety start feature. I just edited my previous reply.

Here is the example on page 11:

C01 = 375, t01 = 20
C02 = 375, t02 = -33
...

This program also needs to use safety start feature. The first step means it will change from C01 (375) to C02 (375) in 20 minutes, or hold at 375 for 20mins. Because safety start is enabled, step 1 timer will be paused until the reading temperature gets close enough to 375.

Thank you for the clarification. I still read and re-read the manual hoping something clicks. I guess when it comes to heat treating knives this PID is an overkill.
